Eyelid Surgwey (Blepharoplasty)

Do the loose skin and puffiness of your eyelids cause you to look constantly tired or older than you actually are? At Soma Plastic Surgery, our eyelid lift surgery can refresh your natural appearance with minimal discomfort and downtime.

What is Eyelid Lift Surgery?

During the natural aging process, the loss of elasticity in the skin along with gravity cause the eyelids to have excess skin on both the lower and upper eyelids. Also known as a blepharoplasty, eyelid lift surgery typically achieves two main aesthetic goals:

  • To reduce bagginess in the lower eyelids

  • To remove excess skin from the upper eyelids

Although this procedure is mostly done for aesthetic reasons, in some cases of severe excess skin on the eyelids, it can also improve the patient’s peripheral vision. Either the upper, lower, or both sets of eyelids can be treated during this procedure depending on your condition.

How is Eyelid Lift Surgery Performed?

The extent of your procedure depends on your unique condition as well as your preferences. During your consultation with Dr. Papanicolaou, your facial profile will be assessed, and your incision options will be discussed. The surgical incisions will be carefully placed within the natural folds of the skin in order to minimize post-surgical scarring, and Dr. Papanicolaou will create a refreshed, alert appearance that maintains your natural look without any exaggeration.

What is the Recovery Like?

Depending on the extent of your procedure, you may need to take a short time off from work and normal activities to heal. Post-surgical swelling and bruising is common and can be easily controlled with prescribed medications and cold compresses. Our medical team will advise you on how to care for your incisions and bandages in order to reduce the risk of infection, and Dr. Papanicolaou will advise you on when you can return to work.

Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Lift Surgery?

Men and women who are in good health, have no contraindicating medical conditions, and who have realistic expectations for surgery tend to be ideal candidates for eyelid lift surgery, although there are other factors that may determine whether this procedure is right for you. Doctor Papanicolaou and our medical team will make treatment recommendations for you based on your aesthetic goals and skin condition.
